Q. How do I know I am buying from an authorised Polar dealer?

A. Ensure you purchase your new Polar products from an AUTHORISED POLAR DEALER. If unsure contact the Pursuit Performance (Australian Polar distributor) sales department for clarification on (08) 8100 8600.

Polar products that are purchased from unauthorised resellers WILL NOT be covered under Polar's 2-year warranty. Additionally, you may potentially run the risk of buying a refurbished, reconditioned or non-current unit.

Q. How do I replace the battery in Polar product and how long should it last?

A. Battery life time depends highly on how much you use the product. For estimated average battery life of your Polar product, please refer to the product user manual.

For many Polar products the battery is inserted at the factory. The actual life of the first battery once the product is in your possession can therefore feel shorter than the estimated.  Excessive use of the backlight or beep signal can reduce the battery life.

Q. How long will my Polar WearLink battery last?

A. The average battery lifetime of Polar WearLink31 is 2 years (1h/day, 7days/week of use) and WearLink W.I.N.D Transmitters battery lifetime is 2 years (3h/day, 7days/week of use).

WearLink31 and WearLink W.I.N.D transmitters have replaceable batteries.

Q. What are the care instructions for my Polar WearLink?
A.
With good care your WearLink31 and WearLink W.I.N.D. transmitter last longer

  • Rinse the WearLink31 and WearLink W.I.N.D. transmitter connector and strap with water after every use. Never put the transmitter connector in the washing machine or drier!
  • Store the WearLink/WearLink+ strap and connector separately.
  • Wash the WearLink/WearLink+ strap regularly in a washing machine at 40ºC/104ºF. The recommended minimum washing frequency is every fifth use. This ensures reliable measurement and maximizes the life span of the transmitter.
  • Always dry the transmitter with a towel. Do not blow dry it, for instance. Rough handling may damage the electrodes.
  • Store your Polar product in a cool and dry place. When it is wet, avoid wrapping it in a non-breathing material, such as a plastic bag or a sports bag.

Q. How long will my Polar T31, T31C and T61 transmitter batteries last?
A. The average battery lifetime of Polar T31, T31C and T61 Transmitters is 2500 hours of use. The whole transmitter needs to be replaced in cases where the battery is flat.

Q. What are the care instructions for my Polar T31, T31C and T61 transmitter?

A. With good care your T31, T31C or T61 transmitter last longer

  • Wash the transmitter regularly after the use with a mild soap and water solution. After washing, dry it carefully with a soft towel.
  • Never store the transmitter wet. Sweat and moisture on the electrodes can keep the transmitter activated, which shortens the battery lifetime unnecessarily.
  • Store your Polar product in a cool and dry place. Do not store it in any kind of non-breathing material, such as a plastic bag or a sports bag, if it is wet.
  • Do not bend or stretch the transmitter. This may damage the electrodes.
  • Always dry the transmitter with a towel. Rough handling may damage the electrodes.

Q. What is the different compatibility between transmitters and receivers?

A.  Certain transmitters (chest strap) are designed to work with certain receivers (watches).  To see what your transmitter or receiver is compatible with click here.

Q. Can I wear my Polar HRM swimming?

A. Yes, Polar products can be worn when swimming. They are not, however, diving instruments. To maintain water resistance, do not press the buttons of the product under water. When measuring heart rate in water, you may experience interference for the following reasons:

  • Pool water with high chlorine content, and seawater are very conductive. The electrodes of the transmitter may short-circuit, preventing ECG signals from being detected by the transmitter.
  • Jumping into water or strenuous muscle movement during competitive swimming may shift the transmitter to a location on the body where ECG signals cannot be picked up.
  • The ECG signal strength is individual and may vary depending on the individual’s tissue composition. Problems occur more frequently when measuring heart rate in water.

Polar products that use 2.4 GHz (W.I.N.D.) transmission (RS800, RS800cx) will not measure heart rate under water. However they can still be used as a timing unit.

Q. What is the Polar Fitness Test and how does it work?
A. The Polar Fitness Test predicts a person's aerobic fitness from the resting heart rate, heart rate variability, gender, age, height, body weight and self-assessment of the level of long-term physical activity.

Polar Fitness Test fits best to the follow-up of long-term changes in aerobic fitness. For obtaining a change in aerobic fitness, regular training for a longer period of time is required. A healthy adult can achieve a 10-15% increase in about three months when training 3-4 times weekly for 30-40 min at moderate intensity.

For more information on the Polar Fitness Test click here.

Q. How do I avoid wrong result in Polar Fitness Test

A. To get a reliable fitness test result you should

  • avoid eating a heavy meal, smoking and coffee for 2-3 hours before the test.
  • avoid unusually heavy physical effort during the test day and the day before.
  • avoid alcoholic beverages or pharmacological stimulants during the test day and the day before.
  • carry out the test when you are relaxed and calm. The test should be done at rest in a lying or sitting position.
  • make sure that the testing environment is peaceful without disturbing noises (e.g. tv, radio or telephone). Talking during the test, coughing, body movement or excitement may disturb the test.

More information on the Polar Fitness Test can be found here.

Q. How do I teach a new sensor?

A. Your Polar watch has been “taught” to work together with the Polar WearLink W.I.N.D. transmitter and various sensors to measure heart rate, speed/pace, and distance data.

If you purchase a new transmitter or stride sensor, they have to be introduced to the watch. This is called teaching and takes only a few seconds.

Learn how to teach your sensor by clicking here.

Q. How do I calibrate the Polar s3 stride sensor W.I.N.D.?

A. For the most accurate speed and distance results Polar recommends the following calibration of the S3 Stride Sensor W.I.N.D.
